The (non)Sense of Happiness Managers: does happiness need to be managed in work contexts?

The second event of the TBS Business Debates series will take place on the 6th of February between Silvia Vilchez and Jordi Quoidbach. Vilchez is currently an Interim Manager for Change Management and has many years of experience as a Corporate HR Manager with a special focus on Happiness at Work. Quoidbach is an Associate Professor at the Department of People Management and Organization at ESADE Business School, conducting research on emotions and decision-making, including numerous academic publications on happiness.

The debate, which will be moderated by Başak Canboy, will be held in English in the library of TBS Business School and is expected to focus on the following topics:

1.  (Why) Has happiness taken importance at work contexts nowadays? Is the trend of creating the role of a Happiness Manager necessary or just a fad? Is this trend hiding something more important? (How) is the role of a Happiness Manager different from an HR manager? Why is the topic of happiness at work often criticized? How does research on happiness inform businesses today?

2.  What might future trends be and what changes would be appropriate?

The two speakers will debate for 40 minutes in English before opening up the discussion to the audience for 20 minutes. After that, a snack will be offered.
